a new journey begins

Early 2022, we leased a beautiful 1000 m2 block of land on the North Coast of Bali. This diary will document the build of the Salt Shack, a simple yet modern home that will seamlessly blend into the tropical surroundings. The block boasts approximately 16 meters of ocean frontage and measures just over 50 meters in length.

Having learnt many lessons from our previous house build in Ubud, Bali, the goal for this project is to take our time and enjoy the process.

As the previous owner had plans for a small resort, the block of land was already cleared well, with merely three established palm trees remaining near the break wall. This meant that we didn’t have too much further clearing to do, except a couple of dead trees at the front of the block.

At this stage, the Salt Shack will be a place to spend quiet weekends away from the business of Ubud. A place that is big enough to grow vegetables, have a few chickens for eggs and enjoy peaceful mornings overlooking the crystal clear Bali Sea.
