Build Diary 16
Leading up to Sean’s birthday in early March, we focused our attention on the barbecue area and getting the back yard ready for a bit of a party!
As part of this little side project we finally added a bench for the BBQ, a small counter which can serve as a bar or prepping area, as well as some timber cladding to make everything look neat and tidy. We painted the inside of the entire BBQ area dark grey and stained all the timber. Add a couple of high chairs from the kitchen and turn on the string lights, and we’re ready for our first grill!
We also built a small timber platform that acts as a step, connecting the main deck with the garden. Underneath this platform and alongside the edge of the house, we created another pebble bed through which the rainwater can flow onto the lower terrace and into the Jungle.
After nearly 18 months, we finally made up our mind what to do the open bathroom. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, we bought a beautiful old Balinese wooden door which we installed on the shower side of the bathroom. We then used one of the left over steel & glass panels that came out of the bedroom to close the remaining gap. The Balinese doors give an immediate wow factor when entering the bathroom and also offer privacy from occasional coconut climbing locals.
