How It All Started

In May 2020, we secured a beautiful 600 square metre disused rice paddy on the outskirts of Ubud on the tropical island of Bali. Building our own house has always been a dream, and after spending prolonged periods of time on the Island of the Gods over the last 3 years, we knew it was the place we wanted to call home.

Having renovated two properties in the past and with a keen interest in all things design and architecture, the plan is to build the house mainly with our own four hands. The current design draft features a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom modular home that has a light foot print and minimal impact on the environment, using locally available materials including steel and timber. The idea is to create a semi-permanent home that can be dismantled and moved to a new location if required, without leaving any concrete slabs behind.

Follow our journey as we build our dream home amongst lush rice paddies and swaying palm trees.
