Build Diary 2

Wow, what a week it has been. A generous serve of ‘Bali Belly’ and three abandoned street puppies later and our build continues.

Regardless of the sleepless nights, we’ve made some absolutely amazing progress on the foundation of the house this week. Our amazing team of workers finished pouring all 18 pylons for the garage/office and they also dug all the holes that are needed for the 30 pylons that will support the living/kitchen area. The weather has been really favourable too, with minimal rain and lots of sun shine - great conditions for building!

Last week we also got our electricity sorted out, which in Bali is either billed monthly or available as a pre-paid option, which you can recharge just like a mobile phone. Bizarre, right? At least this way when you don’t spend any time on the Island, there are no charges once you’ve run out of credit, so it’s actually quite clever. In fact we’re often amazed at how differently things work here. This is not to say they’re better or worse, they’re just different.

On the steel panel side of things, 10 have been manufactured so far and we are expecting them all to be finalised and painted by the end of this week. Our metal guy has put a huge effort in this week and we’re so happy with his craftsmanship. Now we just need to put the panels to the test and see if they will support the weight we intended them to!

Next week, we will ride into Denpasar’s Gatsu area to source some more building materials including the GRC boards (compressed cement boards) which will form the flooring of all 3 buildings. As always, we are going to apply our ‘3 quotes rule’ to understand the market price and score a good deal. Wish us luck!

Until next week,

Anna & Sean

P.S. If you would like to adopt one or both of the adorable little puppies we found, please get in touch!
