Build Diary 10
Wow, its March already which leaves me well and truly overdue for the latest update on our house build! At least being late means that we have a lot to share, so let’s get started.
After the last update, our steel fabricator finalised our window frames, meaning that we could do all the final measurements that we needed to order the glass for the Garage/Office windows. Contrary to most buildings in Bali, we decided to use toughened glass for our home, which is much stronger, safer, and it also looks a lot better. The installation process was easy enough, with just a little black silicone doing the trick for the fixed panels. For the hinged windows, we still have to come up with a locking mechanism that also holds the windows open.
We also made a start on our garden after visiting Tabanan region which is famous for its abundance of beautiful nurseries. Putting our average but improving Indonesian language skills to the test once again, we successfully ordered and received some beautiful yellow and red palm trees and various smaller plants for the front yard. Luckily, our earth borer has also been put to good use not only for the bedroom piers but also for boring the holes for all of our larger plants.
On slightly bigger news, we’ve been able to put together the main frame for the Kitchen/Living space, including the five lengths of 6.3 metre steel beams which will support the main roof. This really was a huge effort considering the sheer length and weight of the beams.
Lastly, we finished pouring the concrete piers for the bedroom foundation and back deck, which means that we can now start securing the floor panels down.
All in all, it’s been a massive couple of weeks and as the weather continues to improve by the week, we can really start to see the finish line… Even though the whole project won’t be finished until later in the year, we are hoping to move in by the end of April/beginning of May. Fingers crossed!
Thanks for your support and staying on top of our progress, we love getting cheered on from the virtual sidelines!
