Build Diary 11
As the weeks seem to fly by at the moment, it’s already time again for an update on our build here in beautiful Ubud, Bali.
Since our last update, we’ve put the back wall of the Kitchen / Living area together and roughed in the plumbing and electrical for the sink and various power points. We also gave the new back wall a first coat of paint, so everything looks nice and neat. We are now waiting for our steel guy to finish the remaining roof panels for the Kitchen/ Living area and if the current dry weather continues, we should have the roof of the main building up by the time the next update rolls around! Fingers crossed…
For the bedroom, we’ve secured all the steel floor panels into place and fixed our GRC flooring down. The levelling process was a little trickier than the other buildings, seeing the walkway that will connect the living area with the bedroom needs to align perfectly, both length and hight wise. In the end, it took us two go’s until we got it just right.
We’ve also started to do some serious landscaping at the front of the house and commissioned a couple of local workers (Ketut and Wayan) to pave the main entrance area and a walkway to the bike parking area. For the parking area, we’ve now settled on a great idea that will keep the existing old pig shed and transform it into an elevated parking area to be accessed from the same hight as the house. This means we don’t need to demolish the pig shed (it’s still structurally strong) and we can keep everything up and away from the rain during wet season.
One of the recurring little annoyances lately has been people stealing from our building site. We are unsure who it is and at what time of the day or night they smuggle themselves over and our things out, but we decided to take precautionary measures and install some lamps that come on as soon as the sun goes down. They also look great and make the place that much more “homely”.
In the next update, we’re hoping to have a roof on the Kitchen / Living area as well as some of the bedroom walls in place. Stay tuned and thanks for reading.
