Build Diary 12
As we always anticipated, the closer we’re getting to finishing the house, the busier life gets. We’ve probably seen the biggest progress in the last fortnight since starting the project and we can’t wait to share with you what’s been happening!
Since our last update, we’ve made huge progress on the Kitchen / Living area, the Bedroom and the back yard.
After a bit of a waiting game, we received the remaining roof panels from our steel guy for the Kitchen / Living room last week and making use of the great weather, we put the entire roof structure up in just 3 days! This includes 24 individual steel roof panels and 26 roof sheets, which needed to be cut to size first. On the last day, we worked until dark to get it all done and secure everything down in case of rain - it certainly was one of the hardest and longest days we’ve had during the entire build so far.
Our day labourers, Wayan and Ketut, continued work in the garden. They moved some serious earth for where the pool and the pool filtration area will be. We’re planning on a narrow but long, natural pool, which won’t require chemicals but instead cleans itself using a natural filtration area. The pool will run along the entire length of the decking adjacent to the Kitchen / Living area and half way to the Bedroom (which is approximately 15 metres).
While we had them onsite, the workers also dug the hole for our septic tank and a trench for the associated plumbing. Having some help with the harder physical work has definitely been worth it as it frees us up to do other things and makes everything come along a bit faster.
We also had our timber for the walkway and back deck delivered, which was a lot faster than anticipated. Unfortunately, we still haven’t been able to track down any stainless steel screws which we need to secure the timber to the steel panels, so we can’t start installing the timber just yet. Ahhh… patience is required once again!
At this stage, we are confident that we can move in by the end of May, which is just four weeks behind our original plan. Having said this, the house will still be a little bit rough around the edges by that point, but we think it will definitely be liveable, plus it’s great to have a goal in front of us and a date to work towards.
On another note, our little family of furry friends seems to be ever growing. ‘Molly’, who is just about the cutest little black Bali puppy, simply ‘appeared’ in our garage one day and she reckons she might have found her new forever home… Let’s just see about that!!!
Until the next update, thanks for reading and your continued messages of support and encouragement. We really appreciate it so much.
