Build Diary 6

Bali House Build Ubud

Happy New Year to all of you who have been following along with our build journey here in Bali so far.

This past week we tried to keep as busy as possible and not get carried away by all the anticipation of the new year. 2020 was a fantastic year for us, and not only because we got to start our build much earlier than we thought.

Earlier in the week, we finalised digging the rough paths for the various drainage channels that will lead through and around our plot of land to keep it dry from rain and the overflow from the neighbouring plot of land which is still being used as a vegetable garden. Digging these channels was probably one of the most physically demanding work we have ever done, but it is so rewarding seeing the water flow downhill and away from our house. We also dug out a narrow channel along the edge of our plot of land where we will be planting a 40 metre (length of the property) row of bamboo which will form a natural fence.

This is where most of our steel panels are made!

On slightly bigger news, half of the garage/workshop walls are up!!! On New Year’s Eve, 9 out of the 18 wall panels were delivered to site, so of course we couldn’t help but work hard to put the first wall up. Putting the panels up was a actually a pretty quick and easy process once all the screw holes had been pre-drilled. All we had to do was stand them up and fix them into the floor frame and to each other.

We’ve also started to design the finer details of the kitchen layout and think about the electrics such as wiring and location of light switches, fans etc. There are a lot of things that need to be planned simultaneously, so a fair bit of multi-tasking will be required over the next few weeks.

This is it for this week’s update, until next week!
