Central Bali

Traditional Balinese Farmers House Catur Bali by Anna Carina Tetzner

The central highlands of Bali are worlds apart from the touristy coastal areas in the South. With increasing altitude, the vegetation and ambient temperate changes from being hot, humid and tropical to a more moderate, mountainous climate. The people who live here are mostly farmers, growing citrus, vegetables and coffee and the pace of life is generally much slower. The small wooden houses are reminiscent of times long gone, featuring primitive outdoor kitchens (paon) and often no running water.
