Lembongan Island
After two years of living in Bali, we finally made it over to Lembongan Island. Having heard so much about this sleepy little island just off the coast of Bali, we just had to go and see it for ourselves… And what can I say? We’re so glad we did!
The pace of life here is noticeably quieter and you will feel this the moment you put your bare feet in the water to step off the boat. That’s right, there are no fancy gangways or jetties, you just jump right off into the pure white sand and walk through the crystal clear, turqouise water.
Contrary to Bali, you can still see quite a few locals riding their ancient, black steel bicycles along the main road, transporting everything from fresh vegetables and coconuts to live chickens. Only very few cars can be found, with the most common mode of transport being the small open back people carriers, albeit these are mostly for shuttling tourists between the ferry and the many accomodation options.
Our favourite thing was to go for early morning walks along the main road, watching local life unfold: Old Balinese men sitting on the steps in front of their houses, women doing the daily offerings, and dogs lazily yawning in the morning sun.
